CAT Scanner - Imagine the Universe
October 16, 2020
Imagine a child or teen undergoing a CAT scan. Being strapped down, rolled into a narrow tube and listening to the unknown mechanical sounds of a large machine for the first time. Then, image a sky of bright beautiful dots representing stars of the constellation about the head of this young patient. This image, similar to that of a small scale planetarium, would be a welcome distraction to that innocent individual undergoing critical treatment. For the little older patient the video light show above their head within the tube could be composed of Greek astrological diagrams of the Big Dipper and of Hercules, or nursery rhyme images for the young one. The goal here would be to ease the pain of a traumatic CAT scan experience, especially an MRI, for those young individuals that wouldn’t know what to expect. The facility administrator would enlighten the patient about what they would see and what a fun, stimulating experience to look forward to.
To continue on the theme of providing a playful universe for the your patient... Sound would be a big plus. Soothing music of the universe, earth sounds, or pleasing nursery jingles to be played, all to overcome the harsh machine noises.
This is a unique idea, currently CAT/MRI Scanner devices only play a limited selection of music with no (none) images displayed inside the tube.
This improvement, to the device, would be beneficial to the young patient in assisting them in easing their mind regarding the foreign procedure they are about to encounter. ©2020
